Course Information

Introduction

This five-day course teaches practical contract management for construction projects. It covers contract selection, obligations, notices, variations, claims and closeout. Participants work with common contract forms and real project scenarios. The focus is on reducing disputes, controlling cost exposure and improving decision records amid tighter margins and greater regulatory attention.

Objectives

1. Interpret and apply key clauses in common contract forms (e.g., FIDIC, NEC, JCT) to real project situations.
2. Prepare and manage scope changes, change orders and variations that meet contractual notice and pricing requirements.
3. Maintain contract administration systems and contemporaneous records to support decisions and claims.
4. Assess and quantify delay, prolongation and loss; prepare credible extension-of-time and compensation claims.
5. Lead commercial negotiations and select appropriate dispute-resolution steps, including adjudication, mediation and arbitration.
